I can't even rent a property from them after trying to book one for about a week. I work for a tax exempt non-profit organization and Starkey is the only property management company we've tried booking through so far that does not honor our tax exempt status. Which is fine, they're not required to, but if they refuse to honor it, they are required to provide paperwork in order for us to file our own tax reimbursement (Assignment of Right to Refund). I've been on the phone with them all day because apparently the owner is the only person who can "authorize" this being done and they have been in meetings non-stop. I've been promised someone would return my call 3 times now, nobody ever has, and when I call back to inquire the status of my request, every time I've heard "oh shoot, sorry, I forgot, yeah it looks like the owner is still in a meeting." UPDATE: they just called me back to inform me that they don't feel comfortable filling out the required paperwork on their end, so at this point they are discriminating service and refusing to work with a non-profit organization. Who does business like this? And the defensive earful I just received from an employee to me, a customer, is enough to make me never want to book through them. I hope the owners of those houses and satisfied with this management company losing them business.
I've rented several houses over the years through Starkey and the office has always been helpful. When I was running late, they would call me to find out when I would be arriving and arrange for me to be able to pick up the keys to the rental. Directions were included to the property which were very helpful.
I've not had any problems renting property with Starkey.
Renters need to realize that properties are individually owned and it is up to the owners to maintain the property. Some (certainly not all) renters are horrible and think they have the right to tear up property, bring pets to property that accepts no pets, smoke inside non-smoking residences, throw cigarette butts all over the place, leave trash everywhere and just basically be rude. Not all property is the same or cared for the same.
What did I like about it? Well up until the last time, we enjoyed it but we had a very unpleasant experience this last summer. It all started out when I was charged for pillows that I honestly did not take. Not a huge deal, but still frustrating. After our stay, I received an email regarding the pillows. I called to discuss the additional charges and was also rudely told that children were not allowed on the property. Not only was this not brought to my attention at the time of booking, or at the time of stay, the agent booking the property was well aware to be expecting a family. I was also informed that to there were complaints of a screaming child throughout the night. Let's remember I was told this AFTER my stay. My child was not the screaming child, and if it had been-wouldn't you think they would address the issue while I was there? This was not the case. SO.. This gets better. I wasn't even going to write this review until now. While we were there, I mentioned looking into booking for a trip in August. I simply asked for information but said nothing about booking at that time. I never followed up with them because we found a different property to stay at. We just arrived in Port A and I received a phone call from them asking if we were coming and said I had a balance and a reservation. I can not express how frustrating this is because after the other issues I decided I will never stay there again. So them calling me out of the blue just sent me over the edge. This property is completely unprofessional and unorganized.
